BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE In 2012 I began my higher academic career at the Cinematography Department of the Lodz Film School studying for a doctorate degree in photography with the work “THE IDEA OF THE PYRAMIDS” which was conferred in 2013. I have given related academic lectures on photography at Polish universities and academies: Nicolas Copernicus University in Torun, the University of Lodz (also in English) and Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk 2018. In years 2015 - 2018 I was employed as an assistant professor at the WSB MERITO University in Torun. In 2015 I was invited as visiting professor by the Dean of the Design Department of the Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad to give CITY PHOTOGRAPHY lectures there. As a part of my academic activity in India I displayed the photography exhibition “MAGIC TORUN” which connected the two very different cultures. Indian students were invited to join the exhibition with their “MY CITY” photos of Hyderabad. In the years 1986 – 2023 I participated in numerous Polish, as well as international, symposia of photographers and designers. Since 2015 I have been participating in academic conferences with lectures on photography. I was born in Torun, Poland in 1952. I am a graduate of the mathematical class of High School named after Tadeusz Kosciuszko, in Torun (1971). I received my Master’s Degree of geomorphology at the University of Nicolas Copernicus, in Torun, 1977. Under the influence of prominent philosophers and respected artists, among whom the major role was played by Wladysław Hasior, the vision of communication complex ideas through photography became my abiding passion. Even being invited for the doctorate studies to the University of Hawaii at Manoa but I gave up my career as a scientist of earth sciences in order to follow my new vocation. Between 1972 - 1980 I was an alpine climber in the Polish Tatra Mountains, the French Alps and Hindu Kush. In 1980, after a serious mountaineering accident, I ceased climbing and dedicated all my recreational time to artistic photography. Simultaneously, I was working for the local grammar schools as an English teacher. Since my exhibition at Warsaw HYBRYDY gallery I was frequently invited for the prior symposia of Polish Photographers by ZG ZPAF (The Council of Polish Art Photographers Association). In 1990 I was granted an artistic fellowship founded by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 1991-1993 the fellowship founded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. In 2017, 2019 I was offered a fellowship by the Fund for Creativity of the Association of the Authors ZAiKS to finish the Polish part of the photo collection “CITY DYNAMICS” and to exhibit it. Again in 2017, 2021 and 2023 I was granted artistic fellowship by the Marshall of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and in 2024 by the President of Torun. I have had my works exhibited in some of very prestigious Polish art and photographic galleries. What is more, I have had numerous exhibitions abroad, in Australia, England, Finland, Kazakhstan, Spain, Switzerland, Slovakia and in the United States. I have also participated in international collective exhibitions in Belgium, Germany and Japan. Some of my works were selected by the Ministry of Culture to represent Polish artistic accomplishments at an International Art Festival in Caracas, Venezuela 1991. Some of my pictures have featured on the covers of numerous books, Polish and foreign magazines, poetry volumes of poems and albums: THE CRUCIFIX (2024). GOTHIC SACRUM (2026) My photographs are to be found in collections of the Art Museum in Lodz, the District Museum of Torun and in the Gallery of Contemporary Sacral Art in Kielce, Archdiocesan Museum in Cracow, as well as in private and other public collections, both in Poland and in many foreign cities: Coventry in Great Britain, Rapperswil in Switzerland, Äänekoski in Finland, Astana in Kazakhstan, Sydney and Melbourne in Australia, Tokyo in Japan, Hyderabad in India, Grenoble in France, Barcelona in Spain and Chicago, NYC in the USA. My artistic achievements have been critically recognised in the photographic and artistic press, e.g. English THE TIMES, Indian THE HINDU, FOTO, in the quarterly FOTOGRAFIA (PHOTOGRAPHY) and in PROJEKT (PROJECT).
