About Artist
Theodore Nielsen
I am from the Cayman Islands and lucky enough to be raised by a very aquatic family. My dad was a tech diver and my mum spent time diving and working in ocean conservation. I started SCUBA diving in my family pool at 9 years old and got my PADI junior certificate on my 10th birthday. I spent the next 8 years of my life completely infatuation by our underwater world and spent as much time in it as I could. When I graduated high school I went on to work for a maritime historical research & recovery company. Or as some put it, “Treasure Hunting”. We worked many Spanish galleon wrecks of the 17th and 18th century. It was such a thrill to dive all day, everyday, searching for artifacts from these wrecks. After my stint working these wrecks I wanted to pursue ocean salvage on a greater scale. I became a commercial diver at the Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle, WA. USA. I spent the next 5 years working up and down the eastern seaboard of the United States on various projects. I eventually left the industry, for various reasons. Bringing us to the present. I am lucky enough to return home to the Cayman Islands. I have developed a deep love for photography and ocean conservation. I’ve happily returned to diving recreationally, even becoming a certified freediver. I will continue to pursue my love for the ocean and all its inhabitants. My fiancé and I plan to buy a sailboat to sail the world. If you want to capture the ocean, there’s no better place to be but on it. I hope to one day make a living from my work.
