About Artist
Phil Pedat
Take the time to experience the emotion, then return to the essentials. Far from being a compulsive trigger, my approach to photography is characterized by a prior immersion in places or atmospheres that awaken beautiful emotions in me. I like to “feel the subject,” try to understand it, and only then do I allow myself to capture it with my camera. I searched for a long time for a way to express my view of the world around us. After a stint in painting, I turned to photography. Today, I am fortunate to be able to divide my time between my professions as an optometrist and a photographer. My favorite subjects are landscapes and anything with a graphic purity. Over the years, my photos have become increasingly minimalist, focusing on the essentials. At first, black and white, often combined with long exposures and a square format, quickly became the obvious choice for me. With its strength and simplicity, black and white gets to the heart of the matter. As for the square format, I find it perfect and unforgiving of framing errors. It constantly pushes me to improve my compositions.
