About Artist
Brent Borgundvaag
I photograph specific animals and specific places, usually shortly before they change. Over six years in the Maasai Mara I followed one leopard and her daughters; in Uganda, the first gorilla family ever habituated to human presence. I have been returning to the same small town in Japan since 1999, and published a book about it in 2022. My work is monochrome and deliberately spare — I am interested in what survives when colour and clutter are removed. Much of what I photograph will not be there in twenty years. That is largely the point.
